Last week, we welcomed a new rider to Stamford Cycling – Ben – and it quickly became clear he’s an incredible cyclist and rides for a good cause. Whilst on the road together, Ben shared that he’s taking on the Duchenne Dash this year, and he’s fundraising through his JustGiving page to support Duchenne UK.
For those who haven’t heard of it, the Duchenne Dash is no ordinary cycling event. It’s a 24 hour ride from London to Paris, covering around 300km and raising vital funds for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) research. Since it started, the Dash has become Duchenne UK’s flagship fundraising event, bringing in over £7 million to help fund new treatments, ground-breaking technology, and better care for those living with DMD.
DMD is a severe genetic disease that gets diagnosed in childhood children, gradually weakening all the muscles in the body, including the heart and lungs. There’s currently no cure, but thanks to events like the Duchenne Dash, research is making real progress – from gene therapy trials to new drugs that slow the disease’s progression.
Ben’s challenge is about more than just the challenging ride. Every donation to his JustGiving page goes directly towards funding this vital work, supporting families, and giving hope to those affected by DMD. If you’d like to support Ben, you can visit his fundraising page and help him reach his target.
It’s always inspiring to see someone in our local cycling community using their passion for riding to make a real difference.
Best of luck to Ben as he trains for the Dash – we’ll be cheering you on all the way to Paris!
