I met Matt for a drink last week, and I’ve got to say, his passion for cycling is infectious. As we chatted over a couple of pints, I couldn’t help but be impressed by his vision for Stamford Cycleworks and what he brings to our local cycling community.

Based right in the centre of Stamford, Matt’s workshop offers something a full-service bike workshop run by someone who genuinely lives and breathes bikes. As a lifelong cyclist himself, he brings years of experience across all disciplines to his work, backed by proper IMI and MIAS accreditations and full insurance.
What struck me most during our chat was his commitment to quality. Whether you’re bringing in your trusty commuter, your child’s first bike, or your pride and joy carbon road machine, every bike gets the same meticulous attention. He’s adamant about using only premium quality, branded parts that meet or exceed OEM specifications. No corners cut, no compromise on quality.
The convenience factor is brilliant too. Matt’s set up a proper booking system with collection and drop-off service that works around your schedule. He’ll pick up your bike from home, work, or wherever suits you, provide a detailed quote, and only proceed once you’ve given the green light. It gets even better, he’ll drop it back when it’s done – meaning you can use your precious free time for actual riding rather than workshop visits.
If you’ve ever dreamed of a custom build, Matt comes highly recommended. Frame-up custom builds, upgrades, and restorations are all part of the service. And before you assume that’s only for those with deep pockets, Matt was keen to point out that custom builds can be more accessible than many think, especially when tailored specifically to your needs and budget.
Beyond the workshop, Matt’s commitment to building a stronger cycling community in Stamford shines through (and explains why we got on so well!). He regularly runs maintenance sessions and offers one-to-one home mechanic training, empowering riders to handle basic maintenance and roadside fixes themselves. It’s about giving people the confidence to venture further, knowing they can deal with whatever mechanical issues might arise.
What I didn’t realise until our chat is that Matt’s also a qualified Personal Trainer with a private studio at his home. His approach to fitness focuses on resistance work and movement coaching that complements cycling perfectly – training that improves both comfort and performance on the bike while promoting longevity in the sport. It’s refreshing to find training specifically designed with cyclists in mind.
Matt’s community involvement extends beyond his business too. He runs Dr Bike sessions, facilitates bike exchanges, and regularly donates bikes to those in need of transport. It’s this kind of grassroots support that helps grow cycling in our area.
Looking ahead, Matt’s keen to foster a greater cycling community in Stamford. He mentioned plans for summer social rides and regular “Coffee Outside” meetups. After speaking with him, I’m excited to see how these initiatives take shape – they’re exactly what our local cycling scene needs.
If you’re looking for expert servicing, advice from someone who genuinely knows their stuff, or want to support a business that’s actively working to get more people riding in Stamford, pop in and see Matt. His approach to quality work, fair pricing, and straight-talking advice is a breath of fresh air.
