Route Overview
Starting from Stamford town centre, heading up to Casterton Road, you’ll soon find yourself flying down the hill and past The Crown pub , before hitting quiet lanes beyond Tickencote. The route gently undulates through countryside, with fields stretching out on either side. Keep an eye out for Red Kites soaring overhead – they’re a common sight in these parts. As you approach Pickworth, you’ll spot the church spire peeking above the trees. This makes for a perfect halfway point to catch your breath and maybe snap a photo or two. The return leg takes you through equally picturesque scenery, but with more hills, and gradually descending back into Stamford along Ryhall Road.
Local Tips and Detours
- Complete this loop in reverse (Ryhall Road towards Pickworth) and you’ll be able to enjoy a post-ride coffee at Woolfox Golf Club, for caffeine boost from Fika before hitting the hill in Casterton to Stamford.
- The Olive Branch in Clipsham, just a short detour from the route, is a cracking spot for a pint or bite to eat.
