This May, Stamford Cycling will be hosting four special rides as part of the 25th anniversary Rutland Walking & Cycling Festival!
After weeks of planning with the Active Rutland team, we’ve mapped out some cracking routes that showcases some of the best roads our local countryside has to offer. Whether you’re after a gentle spin or something more challenging, we’ve got you covered with two different route options across two weekends.
What’s happening?
We’re running two different rides on Sunday 18th May and again on Sunday 25th May:
- 30km Rutland Roamer – A scenic route at a sociable pace, perfect for intermediate cyclists who enjoy a good natter and taking in the views.
- 50km Rutland Challenger – A more testing route for those wanting to stretch their legs a bit more.
Full details are on our events page, linked below. Both rides will set off from Red Lion Square in Stamford at 8am sharp (meet at 7:45am for a quick briefing). We’ll be riding at our usual social pace (around 20km/h average), and making sure nobody gets left behind.
And yes, there will definitely be café stops! We wouldn’t dream of planning a ride without factoring in post ride coffee and cake.
Free to join!
The best bit? These rides are completely free to join! As part of the official Rutland Walking & Cycling Festival programme, we offer these rides at no cost to participants.
That said, places are limited to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience. Registration closes 11th May, but I’d recommend signing up sooner rather than later as I expect spots to fill up quickly.
Why we’re excited about this?
Having cycled around Rutland for years now, the routes never get old. There’s something special about the rolling countryside, quiet lanes, and stunning views that keeps us coming back for more.
Being part of the festival’s 25th anniversary is a real privilege. What started as a small local event has grown into a two-week celebration of walking and cycling in one of England’s most picturesque counties. It runs from 17th to 30th May this year, with dozens of events for all ages and abilities – more info available on Active Rutland’s website.
Our rides are designed to be sociable – exactly what Stamford Cycling has always been about. Whether you’re a regular on our weekend rides or completely new to group cycling, you’ll find a warm welcome and plenty of friendly faces.
